An emo phase: We all had one, right? Whether you dipped a toe in with a simple studded belt or went the whole hog with jet-black hair and black kohl around your eyes, most of us dabbled with the once popular aesthetic that has since been left in the past. Or has it? Supermodel Naomi Campbell just took a leaf out of the emo playbook, and true to form, she did it in style.
Stepping out during London Fashion Week, Campbell showed off a sweeping side fringe in her glossy raven hair. She debuted the new style this week at Skepta’s MAINS show, where her fringe–in true emo, hiding from the world style–partially obscured one of her eyes, already shaded by sunglasses.
While a sweeping side fringe is an emo classic, Campbell’s new look is an elegant, elevated take. Worn in tandem with a shorter hairstyle (she has been sporting mermaid lengths for months), the 53-year-old is demonstrating a flattering way to switch up your look, especially as the cooler months draw in. Getting a fringe in summer isn’t fun, but in autumn it’s an easy way to lift and illuminate the skin and, crucially, keep your forehead warm.
