Over the years, Kate Moss has delivered some of her most unpredictable style moments at the Fashion Awards. Today, it’s her daughter, rising model Lila, who is making her mark on the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall. For this year’s event, Lila enlisted the London-based Albanian designer Nensi Dojaka to create a look that pays homage to one of her mum’s iconic ’90s dresses. “I love to feel elegant, chic and sexy, and Nensi’s designs are the perfect balance of all of these vibes, so I’m feeling confident,” Lila tells Vogue of collaborating with the designer ahead of the ceremony.
Lila’s floor-length sheer dress, elegantly tailored in its form-fitting shape, is made from slinky metallic laminated silk georgette. It boasts Nensi’s signature lingerie-inspired details – see the bralette adorned with petal-shaped pleats that gracefully enhance Lila’s silhouette. “It’s very classic Nensi, but with a twist – the twist being the choice of fabric,” asserts Lila. “It’s crossed at the back and has symmetrical sheer cut-outs on the sides that gives the illusion of a low, open back – in some ways, it reminds me of armor.”
To accessorize her look, Lila borrowed a pair of gold vintage drop earrings from her supermodel mum’s personal collection and selected a pair of black Saint Laurent mules from her own wardrobe. As for the glam? She worked with hairstylist Paula McCash and make-up artist Joey Choy. “For the hair, I wanted something effortless – I found a reference on Pinterest of my mum with a wispy bun for a Donna Karan show in 1993,” she shares. “For the make-up, I worked with Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, and I knew I wanted slightly dewy, bronzy, clean skin, no blush. The eye is the main focus with a taupe beige shadow to contour, some kohl eyeliner and a metallic shimmer. And a pinky nude lip with a touch of lip balm to finish.”
“The inspiration for this look came from the iconic Liza Bruce sheer slip dress worn by Kate in 1993,” shares designer Dojaka on the thinking behind the dress. “Lila is the perfect example of a young woman unafraid to set her own rules – her confidence makes her embrace her sensuality, and she’s the ideal fit for the Nensi Dojaka woman who’s owning her femininity.”
What’s Lila looking forward to most on the night? “I can’t wait to cheer Nensi on for her Womenswear Designer of the Year nomination, as well as all the other talented designers and models who are nominated,” she says. “I’m also excited to congratulate Edward Enninful on his Trailblazer Award.”
