What to Wear to Fall and Winter Weddings

So, you have front-row seats to witness loved ones exchange vows this holiday season — well, maybe not quite front row, but no matter where you end up sitting, your wedding-guest outfit will live on in the happy couple’s wedding photos forever. No pressure.

Weddings are a fun excuse to dress up and dance the night away, but your ensemble necessitates extra forethought when the big day is set for the colder months. You have to consider the projected temperature, whether you’ll be indoors or outdoors, if the ceremony will take place in the daytime or evening and, most importantly, the assigned dress code (formal, black-tie, cocktail, etc.).

Fall and winter weddings require an ensemble that’s not only presentable and on-theme, but also practical for the time of year. Longer sleeves and hemlines are generally a good idea, as are cold-weather-friendly fabrics and textures, like velvet or thick knits. Although no color is off limits (except white, of course), warm neutrals and jewel tones will feel appropriate for the season.

Ahead, we’ve compiled some of the best long dresses, short dresses, jumpsuits and suits for fall and winter wedding guests. Just don’t forget your winter coat and cozy tights.
