admin Tod’s Spring 2024 — the final one from Creative Director Walter Chiapponi — marries ’90s minimalism with Italian elegance, while honoring the people behind the craft.
Presented during Milan Fashion Week at Laboratori Scala Ansaldo, where some of the brand’s artisans work, the spotlight is on the material work and the craftsmanship that goes into every garment. Suiting and trench coats are artfully cut to hang loosely on the body and appear extra voluminous while in motion. Leather skirts are carefully pleated, contrasting goddess draping on blouses and slouchy, crocheted knitwear. Accessories flaunt Tod’s artisanal capabilities, whether it be the Di Bag, asymmetric belts at the waist or leather gloves.
All in all, looks balance an ease and fluidity while being minimal in their elements. Embellishments are sparse, as are accessories like jewelry. Colors are restricted and feel nature-inspired throughout, mostly being black, cream, camel, blue and olive green. (Though, lime green does make a noticeable entrance in later looks, in the form of a poplin T-shirt, trench coat and jumpsuit.)
For his last collection, Chiapponi essentially fashioned a thank-you note to his team while giving the Tod’s customer a lasting impression. A succeeding creative director, however, has yet to be named.
