I’m always on the market for a cleanser strong enough to wash off my layers of skin care, makeup, sunscreen and everything else that accumulates throughout the day. But it’s not easy to find a formula that does all of that effectively without totally depleting my skin of moisture. That’s why this makeup removing cleanser from Strip has been so revolutionary for me: It’s engineered to cleanse while actually adding moisture into the skin.
Packaged in a pot, the chia-pudding-looking formula features tiny, pomegranate-colored globules suspended throughout a clear jelly. That clear part is a lightweight, non-sudsing cleanser that gets to work dissolving gunk. The beads (a technology developed at Harvard) — which are composed of oils and prebiotics — burst as they’re massaged over skin, depositing their skin-helping ingredients as you cleanse. Between both components is a robust ingredient roster the brand claims helps will balance skin’s pH and restore its barrier function: açai extract, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and vitamin A.
Having used it for months, I’ve found there are some important techniques to get the most out of the product. First, a little goes a long way: I like to scoop a dollop that’s about the size of a raspberry. Then, I smooth it onto my entire (dry!) face and work it in using massage techniques. The globules should all pop, leaving a slight reddish tint. Though it seems counterintuitive, I’ll sometimes leave the cleanser on in this phase for five-to-10 minutes to let the ingredients soak into my skin as a little mini at-home facial. Then, I use a bit of warm water to emulsify the product into a thin, milky texture and rinse it off.
Whenever I use this cleanser, it leaves my skin feeling soft and looking glow-y, so it’s become my go-to for any occasion when my skin needs a little extra TLC, whether I’m wearing makeup or not.
