admin If there’s one thing the British designer Jonathan Anderson consistently excels at, it’s conveying a sense of perverse whimsy. Whether he’s sending frog-eyed Wellipets galoshes down the runway or strapping up Lil Durk with a life-sized skateboard to sit courtside at a Lakers game, if Anderson made it, it’s going to be cool and it’s going to be weird.
This weekend at London Fashion Week, the Loewe designer unveiled his latest style-freak garment on the runway for his eponymous brand JW Anderson: stiff hooded sweatshirts and cargo shorts molded from Plasticine, which is a British brand of modeling clay similar to Play-Doh, using the material to mimic classic draping methods as though it were sheathing the Venus de Milo herself.
Per Vogue’s Sarah Mower, Anderson learned that Plasticine is still being manufactured in Northern Ireland, where he was born, and sort of ran with the idea of reinvention and new creation. And while it’s unlikely that we’ll see these molding-clay hoodies get a full production run (aka, don’t hold your breath to get one on sale at SSENSE), there’s a nonzero chance we’ll see one on a celebrity sometime in the future. If we’re making guesses on who will wear it first, I’d reckon Lil Durk is up there, but wouldn’t it be fun if Heartstopper’s Kit Connor—who’s an Anderson superfan—got in on the fun?
