Editors’ Picks are the Fashionista team’s true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.
New York Fashion Week officially wrapped, but I’m still thinking about the one item (well, a pair) I couldn’t stop seeing at the non-stop engagements: Tory Burch’s pierced flats.
First introduced in the brand’s Spring 2023 collection, it has earned a slew of stylish admirers. This season, I spotted Liana Satenstein donning the shoes at the Tory Burch show, while Kristen Nichols styled them with an LBD, causing Cortne Bonilla and I to agree that the shoe is at the top of our shopping lists.
I’ve always had a propensity for piercings as a less permanent option than tattoos (but still edgy and painful, therefore cool). But in recent (and past) seasons, designers are incorporating the modification into garments, accessories, jewelry and, yes, footwear; brands like Lado Bokuchava, Balenciaga, Sacai and Justine Clenquet are leading the trend, but plenty of others have released hardware-riddled pieces recently, including Burberry, Marc Jacobs and Marni.
“Tory Burch is stepping up its game,” Alyssa Coscarelli told me after the brand’s Spring 2024 show, and many fashion girls would agree: The brand has been pivoting from preppy to something a touch more sleek and cool. As Steph pointed out in the Fashionista Slack, these hoop-detailed flats are quite the evolution from the brand’s signature scrunched Reva slippers, with were ubiquitous in the early aughts.
Although I’ve mostly spotted the flat IRL in black leather (and despite my wardrobe being 90% black), as an Aries, the apple-red hue (autumn’s favorite color) is calling my name. My FYP also recently brought the Pierced Mule silhouette in burgundy brown to my attention, equipped with a reversed heel and squared toe, and I think I want those, too, for winter in Los Angeles.
Tory Burch Pierced Slingback Open Toe Flat, $358, available here.
