The Perfect Fall Boots Do Exist, Thanks to Dr. Martens and Nanamica

As far as tough, stylish footwear is concerned, you can’t top Dr. Martens. For more than 60 years, the iconic British brand’s versatile leather boots and shoes have been a favorite of fashion savants, spiky-haired punks, and everyone in between. Russell Westbrook has worn Docs in the NBA tunnel more times than we can count; Phoebe Bridgers loves to pull ’em with jumpsuits; and Frank Ocean once paired his with a suit and a beanie. Today, the venerable shoemaker has launched a new collaboration with the Japanese label Nanamica, who put a sharply minimalist spin on two classic Doc silhouettes.

The cult-loved Nanamica has produced utilitarian menswear for nearly two decades, blending sharp silhouettes with tech-forward materials. Over the years, Nanamica has linked with Dr. Martens on footwear a handful of times—but this latest drop is easily the duo’s sleekest and most desirable yet. The Chelsea-style “Graeme” boot and low-top “Louis” slip-on both received quiet, thoughtful makeovers: The black leather has been polished to a mirror-like shine, and the traditional pitch-black sole is swapped for a smoky gray. The most notable change? Dr. Martens’ famous canary-yellow welt stitching gets swapped out for Nanamica’s own signature shade: a rich navy blue.
