Earlier this week, the UK skate lads at Palace took over Times Square with a cryptic billboard that read:
- BASICALLY IF I DO ENOUGH
- DESCRIPTIONS ABOUT
- MCDONALD’S I RECKON I CAN
- EXPENSE BURGERS
- THEN MY LIFE’S COMPLETE
The bullet-point ad—which nods to the streetwear label’s signature meme-y product descriptions—appeared to signal that Palace and McDonald’s were cooking something up. Now, that something has been served up hot.
While there’s sadly no special McPalace meal in sight, online fashion circles are still suitably gassed up by the collaboration, which includes a trio of graphic tees and a hoodie. The T-shirts playfully combine the two companies’ iconography: There’s a simple Palace-ified flip of the classic Golden Arches logo; a doctored retro photo of a McDonald’s drive-thru sign; and, as referenced on that New York City billboard, the third features another spin on Palace’s stark, snarky product descriptions.
The McHighlight of the collaboration is, no doubt, the hoodie. With its oversized cut and co-branded graphics, it seems to be the piece making the most noise on the internet. So yeah, expect to see it listed for an ungodly amount on your favorite resale site.
This is far from McDonald’s first streetwear collab. In March, they tapped Hong Kong sneaker boutique Clot for a full apparel collection, and last October, the mysterious Los Angeles label Cactus Plant Flea Market released a range of toys that came in an absurdly oversized Happy Meal box. Nigo, the BAPE founder who now designs for Kenzo, also recently hinted at a potential future collab by posting an Instagram video of himself standing beside one of the burger chain’s oldest locations. The post has since been deleted, which has only gotten the rumor mill churning even faster.
The Palace x McDonald’s collection is set to drop on August 16 at Palace and select McDonald’s locations globally.
