Unless you’re the bride and have multiple outfit changes planned, weddings tend to involve many, many hours spent in the same outfit. However, wedding dress codes aren’t the most conducive to comfort. Fortunately, in my search for a fall-appropriate dress for an October nuptial event, I stumbled onto a hack: stretchy crushed velvet.
While browsing Ssense during its epic sale a while back, I immediately added this Anna Sui dress to my cart. I just loved its simplicity, the self-tie bow in the back (meaning it would be somewhat adjustable), the midi length (which is more maxi on me) and overall ’90s vibe. Not until it arrived and I tried it on did I also fall in love with the ultra-soft, stretchy fabric. I could easily sleep in this material. Even better: When I pulled it out of my suitcase after a cross-country flight, it didn’t have a single visible wrinkle.
At the wedding, I stood, sat, danced and collected compliments for hours without any pinching, tightness or constant adjusting. It’s simply the ideal dress, and will likely be my go-to for dressy occasions for years to come. (Unfortunately, it’s no longer on sale at Ssense, but it is on The Outnet.)
