admin The 2023 CFDA Awards tonight celebrated innovators in the American fashion industry. The ceremony fêted top talent such as Fashion Icon recipient Serena Williams and Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award winner Maria Cornejo, among many others. As usual, the red carpet was an event in and of itself. Attendees wore sleek, modern looks that paid homage to the many designers who were being honored inside.
Surprisingly, demure black ensembles ruled the evening—a discreet choice for a night that’s all about championing creativity. Still it was clear that many of the stars in attendance this evening—while all stylishly clad—were choosing to be understated. That didn’t mean the celebrities didn’t shine, though. Take Williams, who turned heads in Thom Browne’s gown with puffed sleeves and a sweeping train. Or Ayo Edebiri in Loewe, who opted for a sleek floor-length gown with a high neckline.
There were a few pops of color throughout the evening that made an impact, however. Chloë Sevigny brought a dash of sunshine to the mix with her yellow Christopher John Rogers frock, complete with a ruffled neckline and red clutch; Molly Ringwald kicked off the night in Zac Posen’s red one-shouldered gown. Metallics had a moment too, such as Demi Moore’s silver sequin Carolina Herrera number. When in doubt, disco ball dressing never fails.
