In the weeks leading up to the GQ Men of the Year 2023 Party, our staff looked back on the wildest, sleekest, and most unforgettable ensembles from MOTY parties of yore. Over nearly three decades, GQ’s Men of the Year bash has acted as an annual census on not only the current state of menswear, but the landscape for out-there fashion at large. Whether you’re Lenny Kravitz wearing a sherpa-lined floral jacket and studded jeans in 1999 or Rihanna wearing a red-hot mini dress in 2012, there is a place for you on menswear’s biggest night.
This year, as one of the co-hosts of our 28th annual MOTY soirée, cover star Kim Kardashian brought the house down in a custom-made, toffee-brown suede set by Chrome Hearts, personalized by brand cofounder Laurie Lynn Stark with gold “KK” charms. Brain-breaking funnyman Tim Robinson pulled up in a buttercup-yellow, double-breasted Bode dinner cardigan. And at the end of the evening, Alton Mason—clad in an ultra-hefty Balenciaga leather jacket with matching moto boots, a navel-deep V-neck tank, and a black-velvet durag—won our third annual Big Fit of the Night Award, presented by Glenfiddich. Sometimes, in the battle of the big fits, you just gotta hand it to a supermodel for pulling off an ensemble of such otherworldly proportions.
