“Fall is a return to glamour,” said Babi Ahluwalia about Sachin & Babi’s new delivery. “In the summer we do cottons and linens, because it’s way too hot, and the world is only getting warmer, but in fall we get dressed up.”
Chez Sachin & Babi, if the summer is about doing less—lightweight dresses, easy sets, lots of daywear—then the fall is all about going the extra mile, and doing what they do best: eveningwear. The collection is anchored by prim dresses in jewel tones featuring oversized painterly “English botanical florals,” and accentuated by lovely sequin pieces in pewter and honey tones (“because we know she already has gold and silver sequins in her wardrobe,” Babi said). The standouts in the lineup are the neatly draped silhouettes with delicately placed crystal ornaments in stardust patterns—a one shoulder column gown in Barbie pink crepe is the big winner.
“We know our gal, and we know she has a full social calendar looking into fall,” said Babi. The designers have a good sense of what their customer needs from them, and where their clothes are actually being worn. But the Sachin & Babi woman isn’t the only one with a packed fall. The Ahluwalias will be taking their spring 2024 collection to Arizona towards the end of next month to be part of Scottsdale Fashion Week.
