Proenza Schouler is beloved for its legendarily chic handbags, and now the brand is officially expanding its accessory-making acumen to the beauty realm. On Saturday, the label unveiled its collaboration with Merit Beauty: a new take on the latter brand’s stylishly slouchy signature makeup bag, which swaps its usual brown corduroy fabric for blue-and-black faux leather.
Channeling Proenza Schouler’s sleek aesthetic, the new bag features a tie-top handle and is embossed with both brands’ logos in a pretty metallic gold.
The collaboration marks a continuation of the brands’ ongoing partnership: Merit has served as Proenza Schouler’s official makeup sponsor for the past several seasons of New York Fashion Week; its no-makeup makeup approach and sheer, buildable formulas have served as the basis for PS models’ laid-back looks, including the ones makeup artist Diane Kendal created a week ago for the brand’s Spring 2024 show.
The Merit and Proenza Schouler collab bag accompanies a limited-edition $125 “Runway Set” — including Great Skin Instant Glow Serum, Flush Balm Cheek Color, Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara, Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil and Brush No. 1 — available now for pre-order on Moda Operandi and Proenza Schouler‘s sites.
Later in October, the limited-edition bag is also heading to Merit’s website as a free gift with any order of more than $100, while supplies last. (The original Merit bag will still be available as a free gift with any first-time purchase.)
So, for those of us whose budgets may never have allowed them to live out their dreams of owning an iconic PS1 bag, this may be our moment to finally add a Proenza bag to our accessories wardrobe — or our beauty routines, at least.
