Olivia Rodrigo is entering a new chapter. She moved to New York City, she’s preparing to release her sophomore album and she’s definitely shed any last remaining bit of Disney she had. (“HSMTMTS” forever, though.) As part of this transformational period, she’s also adopted the footwear of style savants, of people in the know, of frequent Ssense shoppers: the Margiela Tabi.
Rodrigo was spotted out in London wearing the ballet flat version of the split-toe Maison Margiela shoes in black leather, paired with straight-cut jeans, a black boatneck T-shirt and shoulder bag.
The distinctive Japanese-inspired footwear design is divisive, but beloved among fashion fans. (Other members of the celebrity Tabi club include Chloë Sevigny, Cardi B and Hunter Schafer.) There’s no reason to be surprised that Rodrigo’s embracing the look: She’s proven time and time again that she loves a sartorial deep cut — remember the 2001 Chloé horse girl moment at 2023 Billboard Women in Music event, or her Chanel plaid suit with cream platforms at the White House?
