Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Black/White”

In the coming months Nike will be releasing an Air Jordan 1 High in black and white with a distinctive look that’s strikingly similar to the Panda; a Nike SB Dunk in collaboration with TIGHTBOOTH that riffs on the Panda by inverting the colors; an Air Jordan 11 model, called ‘Defining Moments,’ that applies the monochrome look to another fan-favorite silhouette; and a black and white version of the lesser known Jordan 14 that has undeniable Panda vibes. There’s even a Panda-ish quality to Travis Scott’s first-ever original Jordan, the Jumpman Jack, rumored to be coming out later this month.

It’s not uncommon for popular sneaker colorways to be reused on different silhouettes and across a variety of different models, and with the Panda, Nike has clearly found a formula with an enormous amount of demand. But while the popularity of the Panda itself has cultivated a lot of animosity among hardcore sneakerheads who find the colorway played out or too “basic,” there’s no denying that the pared-down simplicity of the black and white style has a clean and sober minimalism that’s hugely appealing. A good colorway is a good colorway, no matter how ubiquitous or trendy. If it makes for some more striking, straightforward kicks, we say bring on the Panda imitators.
