My Summer Style Guide: Julia Hobbs, British Vogue’s Acting European Fashion Features Director

Throughout August, we’ll be shining a light on your summer style. Here’s how British Vogue’s Acting European Fashion Features Director Julia Hobbs is spending the season—and what’s in her suitcase…

What’s your essential summer purchase—and why do you love it?

When it comes to beach bags, don’t get laden down. Prada’s crochet tote fits all the essentials (Bioearth sun cream, a protective lip balm, on-the-go Tangle Teezer, wired headphones, keys) and doubles as an easygoing evening bag.

Where’s a place you love to visit—and what makes it special to you?

I have the happiest memories of dining with friends at La Tonnarella, the idyllic beachside restaurant at Conca dei Marini, on the Amalfi Coast. Order the spaghetti “Jacqueline style”: In the summer of 1962, the first lady would swim here with her children while the chef prepared a simple spaghetti lunch using delicious local courgettes, especially for her.

What’s your favorite swimwear—and the beach where you’ll be wearing it?

I’m a fan of high-neck swimsuits, which offer extra protection against the sun. H&M’s long-sleeved style is my noon-till-dusk essential for cooling swims at Formentera’s Platja de Migjorn.
