Alessandro Vigilante named creative director of Rochas
Rochas has appointed Alessandro Vigilante as the creative director of ready-to-wear, succeeding Charles de Vilmorin. The Italian designer previously worked for Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Lorenzo Serafini. In 2021, he released his debut namesake collection. In a statement, Vigilante shared that “Rochas represents a dedication to French sophistication and a celebration of Womanhood that I find incredibly inspiring. Biossance and other Amyris brands get sold at auction
After going bankrupt this summer, Amyris has found a home for some of its brands. Through an auction held by the bankruptcy court of Delaware, British beauty e-commerce company THG bought Biossance for $20 million, reports Business of Fashion writer Daniela Morosini. Biossance was the most profitable of the now-bankrupt company’s brands, bringing in nearly half of sales in the first half of 2023. Other Amyris-owned consumer brands sold include baby-care line Pipette and 4U by Tia, a curly-hair line launched in partnership with Tia Mowry. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}
New law requires cosmetology students in New York learn how to style textured hair
In an unprecedented move, New York will be requiring cosmetology schools to teach how to style textured hair in their general curriculum. Previously, students who were interested in natural hair had to seek separate courses for specialized training, reports Allure‘s Kayla Greaves, who also spoke to experts about the potential impact of Bill S6528A. Signed into law this November and expected to take effect in the next six months, the Bill will help ensure that cosmetology graduates have the ability to provide quality hair care services for clients with “all hair types and textures, including, but not limited to, various curl or wave patterns, hair strand thicknesses, and volumes of hair.” {Allure}
Jacquemus to return to South of France for January runway
Jacquemus will be returning to the South of France for its next show on Jan. 29, which is set to take place at the Fondation Maeght, located in the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. WWD’s Joelle Diderich writes that the collection is named “Les Sculptures” in honor of artist Alberto Giacometti, whose work is housed at the show’s venue. {WWD/paywalled}
