These are the stories making headlines in fashion on Thursday.

Fashion’s role in U.S. environmental policies
Sustainability is a hot topic within the fashion industry, and while some environmental legislation has found support from fashion brands, there is still work to be done. Vogue Business writer Rachel Cernansky highlights a key disconnect: legislators haven’t made fashion a priority and the fashion industry is not used to heavily engaging in politics. As talk of sustainability and eco-friendly practices becomes more common in the fashion industry, brands should keep an eye on key U.S. policies such as the Recycling and Composting Accountability Act and the EPA’s Draft National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution to represent fashion in environmental policies. {Vogue Business/paywalled}

Aimé Leon Dore’s grand return to Mulberry Street
Aimé Leon Dore, a menswear brand bridging the gap between streetwear and luxury, opened its store on Mulberry Street in May and often has a line out the door of ALD fans. After the pandemic, ALD pulled out of 160 stores to increase its scarcity with only two stores: London and New York City. LVMH acquired a minority stake in the company last year, and ALD has made its Mulberry store reflect a sophisticated shopping experience as the brand aims to mature its audience “toward something slightly more refined,” Jon Caramanica writes for The New York Times. Put simply, ALD founder Teddy Santis said, “We’re so far from the ceiling. There’s so much for us to get better at.” {The New York Times}
