Nearly seven months after Jeremy Scott exited the brand, Moschino has officially announced his successor.
Effective Nov. 1, Davide Renne will oversee women’s, men’s and accessories for the Italian fashion house. The designer comes to the brand following two decades at Gucci, where he was most recently head designer of womenswear; he’s a graduate of the University of Florence (Donatella Versace is also an alum), with a degree in costume and fashion operations.
“Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi — the playroom. This resonates deeply with me,” Renne said, in a statement, hinting at his intentions to keep the brand’s exuberant aesthetic alive. “What fashion — Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all, can achieve with its enormous power, should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery and experimentation.”
He also thanked Massimo Ferretti, executive chairman of Moschino’s parent company Aeffe SpA, “for giving me the keys to your playroom.”
“(Renne) is a brilliant designer and a special human being,” Ferretti said, in his own statement. “Franco used to say that bad manners are the only true bad taste, and getting to know Davide I have been struck not only by his obvious talent but by his kindness, his sensibility. We are confident that he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Moschino — a global house with an Italian heart and a truly unique DNA in the luxury industry.”
Renne has big shoes to fill, with Scott serving as Moschino’s creative director for the past decade. Eager onlookers won’t have to wait long to see what the brand’s new era will look like: His first collection for Moschino will debut on the Fall 2024 runways in Milan this coming February.
