Last night, Michael Shannon joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show for another talk show masterclass. Making his 13th appearance on the show, Shannon talked at length about Halloween costumes, R.E.M., and his directorial debut, Eric Larue. But the real focus was on his outfit: Shannon came decked out in a hand-picked look from the Balenciaga Spring ‘23 collection, including a black pin-stripe suit in wool, a black cotton T-shirt, and matching leather belt, in what was clearly one of the best late-night looks of the season.
And let’s not forget the shoes. Shannon capped off his Balenciaga fit with a pair of black Steroid Derbies—the massive, gloriously ridiculous EVA kicks that have gone viral many times over and have become high-fashion sneakerhead grails since their release earlier this year. “I look like Herman Munster’s best friend,” he quipped as soon as he sat down, raising his foot to show off the gargantuan shoe to the audience. “I’ve stomped a lot of lanternflies with these.”
It was the perfect way to hit the talk show circuit on the eve of Halloween. The only thing missing was the gimp mask.
