Makeup Artist Katie Jane Hughes Launches a Makeup Line Dedicated to Glow-y Skin

Katie Jane Hughes, a celebrity and editorial makeup artist known for her work with Ashley Graham, Hailey Bieber, Glossier and more, has officially launched KJH Brand with the Hyper Shine High Lite Kit, a $75 three-piece kit that includes a Hyper Shine Lite Pigment, Hyper Shine Serum and a small synthetic-hair application No. 1 brush. It comes in four shades: Lite Copper, Lite Bronze, Lite Gold and Lite Pink.

In an Instagram Story, Hughes said she “wanted to create slightly complex products or kits that allow for me to show (people) multiple ways of using the same product, and to do that I wanted to create a deconstructed highlighter. I basically told the lab that I wanted a liquid highlighter (that could have) the liquid taken out.”

The Hyper Shine Lite Pigment is a multi-purpose cream base that can be used on its own or blended with the Hyper Shine Serum, a lightweight formula that the brand says is made primarily from coconut extract, a shiny ingredient that helps to create a glass-skin effect.

As of now, the brand has no plans to announce future products, with Hughes sharing on Instagram that she may alter the initial formulas based on customer feedback, hoping to master this first drop before moving onto new ideas: “I wanted to drop this product, see what you guys thought and then, essentially, potentially segue and change the formula depending on how you were all using it the most.”

Staying in touch with her followers has always played a major role in Hughes’s success. In a 2018 interview with Fashionista, the England-born artist shared, “Without (my followers), what’s the point? Without actually helping them reach their beauty goals, or inspiring them to try something new, to get closer to what they want to be at that period in their life, what’s the point?”

KJH Brand isn’t Hughes’s first foray into a product line. She’s been collaborating with Spectrum Collections — a British makeup, tools and accessories brand — on a range of makeup brushes since Feb. 2021, and previously worked with Butter London. In an Instagram Story, Hughes called the No. 1 Brush in The Hyper Shine High Lite Kit a “very small version of a No. 5 from the KJH Spectrum kit,” and also shared that despite the launch of her own brand, it’s “very possible you will see more from (me and) Spectrum Collections.”
