Throughout her impressive career, Lady Gaga has pulled off many different fashion looks. When she first burst onto the scene with The Fame, for one, she would often hit the stage in hooded bodysuits or spandex catsuits; Later, for her Joanne album, she embodied more a country-western vibe. She’s done it all! And now, it seems the pop superstar is embracing a new fashion look that’s all about referencing her many different eras. Case in point: After Gaga made a surprise cameo on Saturday Night Live this weekend (she introduced musical guest Bad Bunny), the star stepped out in an ensemble that included many of her past style signatures.
I’m fascinated by the look here, designed by Celine: Gaga hit the town in a leather button-up shirt with a crystal fringe trim, complete with her favorite pair of death-defying platform heels. The all-black, leathery look is very reminiscent of pieces she wore during The Fame era, while the fringe detailing nods to her Joanne rodeo style; Those sky-high heels, however, are very much The Fame Monster (an avant-garde era when she famously wore Alexander McQueen’s skyscraper Armadillo heels, too). Still, while the outfit clearly nods to some of her past looks, there’s something fresh and modern about it. It feels like 100 percent Gaga, but current Gaga. After all these years, she clearly still knows how to rock a bold statement look—the look, somehow, never wears her. And that takes skill!
