Kit Connor likes a fashion moment—and that’s especially useful at something like last night’s British Fashion Awards 2023. But he likes a fashion moment with substance. Because while red carpet reporters gush and pummel words like “iconic” into a meaningless existence, menswear’s next gen like to put thought and effort into their big fits. Connor is very much of that ilk.
Stepping out on the red carpet with his signature quiff (complete with that very precious Disney prince strand of hair that hangs forward), the Heartstopper actor wore a black tank, a pair of satin trousers, and some patent dress shoes. It’s a classic combination that’s both very casual and very formal, and one that dudes have been working since the dawn of time. Black just works.
But Connor amped it up with a high shine, bright gold trench coat by Loewe. This is the sort of finish that gets people talking (and this is the menswear set piece that reasons an overexcited E! reporter). Decorated with tortoise-shell buttons, the London-born actor rolled his sleeves up and went for a black corsage to the lapel. Back in June, he sat on the front row of Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 men’s show—and he’s a big stan of JW Anderson, the eponymous venture from creative director of both Jonathan Anderson. So this big fit didn’t come as much of a big shock: Connor does Loewe’s signature haute weirdness well.
Connor also knows how to have some fun when it comes to his wardrobe. That’s what’s separating the new gen. In May, he showed up at the British Vogue x Netflix party in one of the most perfect gray suits known to man. And, earlier this season, he arrived at Vogue World in a future Studio 54 polo shirt and a pair of equally-as-sparkly high-waisted trousers. Oh, and Connor can do workwear, too, because nobody is above the awesome power of a Carhartt jacket.
And despite all that, this gold jacket made Connor’s wardrobe feel all shiny and new again. Gold star for you, Kit.
