Jeremy Allen White has become something of an accidental fashion boy since breaking out on The Bear. He wears pretty regular stuff, but somehow, the actor manages to make ordinary things feel like the coolest menswear piece ever. His on-screen chef Carmy recharged simple white T-shirts for the masses. He brought a new spin to black tie at British GQ’s recent Men Of The Year Party, giving it a sexy one-up by ditching the classic bow tie. Out on the streets, meanwhile, he’s been making retro sweater vests and destroyed jeans a thing. It’s all a bit disheveled and mismatched, but it just works.
This week was no different. JAW was photographed arriving at Jimmy Kimmel Live in another one of his pretty Normal Guy fits. It was a navy wide-striped wool suit, cut shorter at the ankles to expose a pair of buffed leather lace-ups. On paper, the sort of thing that any Wall Street guy you see on your commute each morning might wear. But Allen White flipped it on its head. He threw on his go-to washed-out beige Mets cap. He wore a crisp white shirt—the sort of thing bankers have eight of—unbuttoned and loose. He made it look cooler.
His whole vibe is in tune with the sort of thing British brand Drake’s is doing. It’s old-school menswear in the traditional sense of it all, with a subtle left-field spin. There are classic suits, cut from wool barathea, paired up with ball caps and doubled-up rugby shirts. Similarly, Teddy Santis’ ultra-hyped label Aimé Leon Dore (which has also collaborated with Drake’s) has been riding a similar wave. Proper Normal Guy chinos paired with the sickest New Balance collaborative sneakers on the planet. Oxford shirts worn untucked and teamed with gray marl joggers and ear-exposing beanies.
Yet more low-lift, high-impact menswear from JAW—and expect more to come.
