Jeremy Allen White is a pretty classic dresser. Much like his character Carmy on The Bear, he appreciates a good pair of jeans, a workhorse white T-shirt, and easygoing clothes that can withstand the heat of the kitchen (or the SAG picket line). But one thing Jeremy has on Carmy—as those who have ever worked back of house in food service may know—is that he’s free to rock a fresh coat of nail polish without fear of violating health code.
While grabbing dinner with his The Bear costar Ayo Edebiri in Los Angeles this week, White wore a textbook Jeremy Allen White outfit (an open-weave knit camp shirt, easygoing trousers, white New Balances) with a relatively unconventional Jeremy Allen White accessory: a dual-toned manicure, with one hand painted a bright mint green and the other a dusky brick red. Perhaps the actor brought his A-game to dine with the very stylish Edebiri, who plays Carmy’s chef de cuisine Sydney Adamu in the series. (The designer Thom Browne even made custom chef whites for Sydney to wear in The Bear season 2.) That, or White is painting his nails during the SAG strike to mentally prepare for his role in a movie literally called Fingernails.
In any case, White is just the latest fashionable dude—joining the likes of Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and Tyler, the Creator—to play around with painted nails. And as Carmy or Sydney might advise, any chef worth her Maldon salt knows that every plate is a blank canvas; so, too, is every fingernail. So the next time you come across a nice shade at the drugstore? Just say: “Oui, chef.”
