With so many new beauty products landing on the Who What Wear UK beauty desk each week, it takes something truly special to stand out. Honestly, you should see our post room. It’s inundated with new launches, and myself and our other editors are tough to please.
However, when Dr. Jart+’s BB Premium Beauty Balm arrived with us, every single editor on our team was instantly impressed. We’ve already covered it as one of the best BB creams and tinted moisturisers, but seeing as it’s recently been taking off on TikTok (with a cool 14.3 million views and counting, FYI) I decided it was high time we shared just how much we love this BB cream with an honest review.
On the day of writing this story my skin certainly put this BB cream to the test, with a fresh outbreak of hormonal acne, redness and some stubborn acne scarring. However, I’m reassured that the BB formula also contains niacinamide (a great ingredient for acne and calming the skin barrier) and glycerin to hydrate. It’s like a first-aid plaster for your skin when your complexion isn’t playing ball and you need both coverage and a little extra skin support. Whilst it also offers a bonus SPF 50, I decided to layer this over a dedicated SPF to ensure thorough UVA and UVB protection.
The formula itself is a dream to apply. It has a creamy and cushiony consistency that blends easily with your fingertips or a makeup brush. I’ll admit that the first time I used this, I was a little hesitant. As the BB cream comes in just four shades to choose from, I was initially worried that I wouldn’t get a good match.
But miraculously, this does indeed adapt to your skin tone as you buff it in. As you warm it into the skin, you see it transform and almost disappear—Dr. Jart+ has conjured some seriously makeup sorcery here, as I’m always sceptical of colour-adaptive makeup.
As you can see from the above gif, I’ve applied it on the right-hand side of my face, and I think it did a great job at covering my redness, gliding over my fresh breakouts without highlighting them. It has a plumping, cushioning effect which also makes my skin texture more uniform.
As for the finish, it’s radiant and neither too matte nor too dewy, which makes it great for everyday wear. It also feels so lightweight to wear, and I didn’t need to apply additional concealer to the areas of acne and redness, either. It’s a 10/10 from me, and the Who What Wear UK team agrees. It can be tricky to decide which shade to choose, so scroll ahead to see which shades our editors wear.
