For 125 years, Rimowa has been making the status symbol luggage for the jet-setting elite, with the starry likes of Spike Lee and Martha Stewart seen rolling the German brand’s distinctive aluminum suitcases through airports across the globe. In commemoration of its big anniversary, Rimowa pulled out all the stops for a luxe exhibit, called Seit 1898, that highlights the brand’s rise from its humble Cologne days to gracing virtually every luggage carousel on the planet.
Currently on display in New York City through September 17, Seit 1898 spotlights one-of-a-kind luggage from the people who helped establish the brand as the “It” travel bag. From Billie Eilish’s see-through Rimowa to Rodger Federer’s personal luggage, the exhibit houses over a hundred archived cases and a variety of coveted collaboration pieces from the likes of Dior, Supreme, Moncler, and more. After wrapping up its NYC run this Sunday, the exhibit will jet off to Shanghai before landing in Rimowa’s hometown of Cologne. It’s an exhibit absolutely worth traveling—and packing a suitcase or two—to see.
