There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
My love for simple-yet-cutesy bows knows no bounds. From clothing to handbags, you can find a neatly-tied ribbon adorning the most random of items throughout my wardrobe. Fashion may currently be obsessing over the look, but we must recognize some of the great bows that came before this era — like the one that Chloë Sevigny wore back in 2003.
When grunge aesthetics were only just starting to wear off and utilitarian styles were beginning to reign, Sevigny went in a totally different direction with a more minimal — yet exciting — approach to bows at the Toronto International Film Festival. The then-29-year-old wore a white, fuzzy mini dress with cap sleeves and silvery white buckled heels, with no accessories except for an oversized white bow on her ponytail.
The dress, frosted eye-makeup look and casually pulled-back hair created the perfect canvas for her satin bow, showcasing the hair ornament’s power to pull an ensemble together. The ultimate cherry on top, if you will.
