admin It’s pretty obvious to anyone who’s taken even a cursory listen to Reneé Rapp’s music that she has major pop-superstar potential. (Just call her Gaylor Swift…or maybe don’t, because that’s reductive, but I definitely want a Swift-level career for her.) Rapp’s debut full-length album, Snow Angel, came out on Friday, and to ring in the occasion, she had none other than celesbian royalty Cara Delevingne direct the music video for her song “Pretty Girls.”
“Cara is obviously ridiculously talented. She’s also been an icon my whole life. Working with her to bring the ‘Pretty Girls’ video to life was such a privilege. She is an incredible collaborator on set, and I think, with the help of her creative mind, we were able to make something that really resonates with people on a deeper emotional level,” Rapp told Vogue in advance of the music video’s release. Now that it’s out, I absolutely can’t stop watching it.
There’s a long, proud history of queer celebrities directing music videos I’m embarrassingly obsessed with—Kristen Stewart working with Boygenius springs to mind—and I, for one, am thrilled to see Delevingne branch out and get on board with the Reneé Rapp agenda. (The Rappnaissance? Okay, fellow stans, we need to keep working on the nomenclature.) The news that Rapp would be exiting the Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls hit me hard, but if we’re going to get extremely gay bops like this out of her career shift, then I’m all for it.
