September is upon us, and so, too, are the Fall 2023 fashion campaigns that will inspire our fall shopping trips (and possibly also fuel our upcoming nightmares).
On Saturday, Heaven by Marc Jacobs released a series of “AI-inspired” (per the brand) images featuring Bella Hadid as a bald, futuristic robot clad in Marc Jacobs Kiki boots, armor-like lingerie and a denim micro mini skirt.
Photographed by Carlijn Jacobs and styled by Danielle Emerson, the campaign showcases the new “Kiki Group,” which the brand describes as “an assortment of ready-to-wear and accessories featuring the design codes of the Kiki,” per a press release. (The Kiki’s signature buckled straps appear on shoulder bags, mini skirts and cami tops.)
The campaign seems to meld Y2K nostalgia with futurism, combining 2000s-era silhouettes and accessories with robot-like, AI-inspired elements. In one image, Hadid poses nude and bald, clad only in a sculptural silver ear cuff as metal piping snakes around her. In another — like in Kylie Jenner’s Fall 2023 Acne Studios campaign (which was interestingly lensed by the same photographer) — Hadid models alongside herself, her 2000s-era-stick-straight hair blowing in the wind as she gazes toward her bald, silver armor-clad counterpart.
The collection itself features contributions made by other creatives; specifically, artist Eri Wakiyama, designer Linz Shelton of Cuffz by Linz and tattoo artist Keegan Dakkar.
“Eri Wakiyama, a New York-based artist specializing in large-scale compositions and sculptures utilizing watercolor and acrylic mediums, transcribes her vibrant and brooding characters onto tops, T-shirts, dresses and handbags,” notes a press release. This marks the artist’s third collaboration with Heaven.
The Fall 2023 collection also includes a reissue of the Y2K-favorite Cuffz Handbag, first introduced in 2004, which was created in collaboration with Shelton and has been updated in a new “ice-grey” colorway. It features “industrial-grade handcuffs” designed by Linz. The ear cuff Hadid wears in one of her bald campaign images — a collaboration between Heaven and Dakkar — is also available as part of the fall collection.
