On Tuesday, YSL Beauty announced that it has tapped Austin Butler as its newest face, appearing in the campaign for the brand’s latest men’s scent, Myslf.
“In seeking out a figure to embody YSL Beauty’s vision of the new masculinity, there could have been no better choice for us than Austin Butler,” said Stephan Bezy, International General Manager of YSL Beauty. “Both as an artist and as a human being, he embodies the values expressed by our brand through Myslf, a modern representation of what it means to be a man. Embracing his many facets. Owning up to his individuality, generously, unapologetically.”
The brand teased the announcement via a series of semi-cryptic videos posted on Instagram, showing shadows and silhouettes of Butler, but that didn’t stop fans from identifying the actor almost immediately.
In one of the teaser posts by the brand, Butler’s unmistakable (and still Elvis-sounding voice) can be heard in an audio clip saying, “Alright, let’s go,” sending fans into a frenzy in the comments, cracking the case of who the new global ambassador could be well before the official announcement had been released to the public.
“I was honored to be asked to join the YSL Beauty family,” said Butler in a press release announcing the news. “Over the last few years, I’ve spoken with people who knew Monsieur Saint Laurent. He broke through labels. He was a rebel, and I love that about him. I feel privileged to be a part of the heritage he set in motion.”
The first new men’s fragrance since 2017 for YSL, Myslf includes notes of orange blossom, patchouli heart, amber and tobacco — creating what YSL Beauty calls “more than a fragrance,” and rather, “a statement scent.”
Myslf Eau de Parfum is available in four sizes as of Tuesday at YSLBeauty.com.
