Apple iPhone 15 Launch Date 2023: New Features, Pricing, And More

Pour one out for the end of an era. After 11 years of the iPhone’s maddening dependency on Lightning cables, the latest Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Pro handsets are finally democratizing their charging methods and switching to USB-C cables instead. Yep, the way that you power up your smartphone is about to change slightly (and you can finally power up your Macbook and your phone with the same cable, meaning less cords all around). But if that’s not enough to convince you to pre-order a new phone, there’s more where that came from.

These handsets feature some luxe new design features, a souped-up periscope camera lens, plus a new Action Button in the mix. We went down to Apple Park in Cupertino to witness their grand unveiling, wrap our hands around the new launches, and give you the lowdown on all the updated technology. Here, everything to look forward to when you make your next iPhone upgrade.

It’s a good year to get the ‘normal’ iPhone 15

Recently, Apple has been pretty eager to keep some clear blue water between the basic iPhone models and their Pro equivalents. Because why would you pay more money for a slightly nicer phone when you can get basically the same device for a good deal less? That approach kind of reached its zenith with 2022’s iPhone 14 models, which were good but unremarkable. Especially when compared to the iPhone 14 Pros and their cool-as-hell Dynamic Island notification tech.

This time around, both the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus get the Dynamic Island, a redesigned 48-megapixel camera system that crams significantly more detail and light into shots; the faster, more efficient A16 Bionic chip; and a pink colorway that’s giving big Barbie energy. To put things more simply, you’ll actually notice a difference if you’re upgrading this year.

The titanium iPhone 15 Pro is more like a Rolex than ever

Apple is less of a technology company and more of a luxury conglomerate these days, so it’s only fitting that both the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro and 6.17-inch 15 Pro Max lean into the hottest watch trend of 2023. That’s to say they get a brushed Grade 5 titanium frame that’s stronger and lighter than its stainless steel equivalent of old. Aside from the obvious benefits of a phone that weighs substantially less than its predecessor, those who already own this year’s new titanium Rolex Yacht-Master (or the grey-dialed IWC Ingenieur) can now buddy up their most prized possessions for the ultimate stealth wealth flex.

Yep, wave goodbye to your Lightning cables

There is a world where we give you a whole spiel about charging cable standards, but honestly, life is just too short. TL;DR, the port that all other smartphones—as well as every iPad and Mac—use for data transfer and charging has now been introduced to all iPhone 15 models. There’s also a new AirPods Pro case that’s USB-C compatible.
