Anya Taylor-Joy has been living la dolce vita. The Emmy winner got married to musician Malcolm McRae in Venice, Italy this week in an unconventional embroidered beige dress. But it was Taylor-Joy’s second look that she wore days after the ceremony that was far more on par with traditional wedding style.
The actor was photographed boarding a Venetian water taxi with her new husband wearing a white, A-line minidress. The corseted top of the dress featured a beautifully draped cowl neckline, which were supported by two pieces of boning at each side. The airy strip of fabric encircled Taylor-Joy’s torso, creating both a low back and off-the-shoulder sleeves.
In keeping with her cool, low-maintenance sense of style, Taylor-Joy kept the glam to a minimum. She wore her hair in a low bun, which she secured with a black hair tie, a sleek pair of black sunglasses, and—forgoing traditional bridal shoes—opted for a pair of black Mary-Janes.
Taylor-Joy isn’t the only high profile bride to rock the schoolgirl staple shoe. For her summer wedding to Jack Antonoff, actor Margaret Qualley also rocked a pair of Mary-Janes. While Taylor-Joy strayed from the bridal white, Qualley wore a precious pair of white Chanels to both her ceremony and after-party. Perhaps the humble Mary-Jane will become the cool bride’s new answer to footwear for her big day. Margaret Qualley and Anya Taylor-Joy have certainly made a compelling case.
