But this week’s best dressed stars aimed to subvert formal evening attire, putting unexpected twists on the classic cocktail or floor-length dress. The end result? A lively assortment that came with cone bras, sheer skirts, or all-over denim. Gowns gone wild!
Singer Lily Allen, for one, stepped out in London wearing Richard Quinn’s white column dress with a cone bra—very Madonna. Zendaya made just as big of a statement for her birthday Instagram post: The Euphoria star struck a pose in Collina Strada’s printed skirt and bolero, complete with an itty-bitty sequin bra top. Also in a sexy two piece was Diane Kruger at a Visions premiere in Paris. Her red-hot Alessandra Rich bra top and skirt felt fresh and fun, with a black blazer thrown over her shoulders for good measure.
Sheer dressing also had a moment this week. Attending an H&M event in California, Elle Fanning wore the brand’s sheer camisole top with a classic black suit. In Venice to attend the DVF Awards, Amal Clooney slipped into a vintage John Galliano-era slip dress with a gauzy hemline. (She loves archival Dior.) The wildest moment of Venice, however, goes to Emma Corrin: The actor dared to wear Miu Miu’s pantless runway look from fall 2023, complete with a green cardigan with the briefs to match. It’s an unexpected look that, surprisingly, read as polished. This was clearly the fashion M.O. from A-listers this week.
