There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
With the end of “Hannah Montana” and parents still reeling from her infamous Teen Choice Awards performance (remember the ice cream cart pole dance?), it was clear that Miley Cyrus was in the process of painting a new image for herself in 2012. She wasn’t just a Disney kid anymore, and she was laser-focused on establishing a new era — one that was crafted with the help of fashion.
A few months after the culture-altering moment that was Cyrus chopping and bleaching her hair, the singer made an appearance on “The Tonight Show” — then hosted by Jay Leno — to promote her upcoming appearance on “Two and a Half Men.” For her segment, she paired her fresh pixie cut with a black Anthony Vaccarello cropped bustier and a vintage Moschino Couture pencil skirt that depicted the New York City skyline at night around the entirety of the hem. Glowing windows and a starry, deep blue sky, particularly surrounding the Empire State Building, make this a perfectly eye-catching statement piece.
The “Flowers” singer accessorized with a thin, silver body chain underneath the top, stacked silver bangles and black nail polish. To finish the look, Cyrus complemented the subtle red details on the skirt with satin red platform pumps.
