admin Just like flashy store windows and bright, gleaming light displays, there’s a reason crystal chandelier earrings unmistakably signal the holidays: They’re a glitzy, sparkly seasonal trope. Of course, that’s not necessarily a bad thing — shimmering accessories play into the tried-and-true party outfit formula that instantly makes any LBD a touch more festive. But let’s call a spade a spade: Chandelier earrings and tiny silver clutches are a little… well, expected.
You can get more wear out of your holiday accessories with pieces that aren’t as on-the-nose as, say, the crystal lariat necklace you wore with your chambray shirt back in 2014. Take it from knitwear designer Nia Thomas, who takes a “quiet luxury” approach to accessorizing: “I prefer more classic, understated accessories that I can wear well into the new year, like a pearl earring or a skinny black scarf — pieces that still feel festive, but are significantly more timeless,” she says.
Other swaps that feel less season-specific include trading in the bejeweled clutch for a satin slouch bag that’ll look just as chic in July with jeans and a white tank as it does a slip dress, or a pair of sculptural earrings that read more vintage Elsa Peretti than typical office-holiday-party fare.
