There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
In 1976, Diana Ross had just released her seventh studio album and second self-titled record. She’d already had a streak of great fashion under her belt, in part thanks to her frequent collaborator and icon in his own right, Bob Mackie. As part of this promotional cycle, she performed “Love Hangover” on the variety show “The Midnight Special,” and wore one of her most memorable Mackie looks: a captivating, yellow sequined gown featuring a chevron pattern of silver and black coming up the skirt of the dress.
Ross accessorized the ultra-sparkly ensemble with oversized gold earrings and hoops that were just as glamorous as she is, plus a tennis bracelet and chunky rings. The former member of “The Supremes” completed the look with a slicked-back bun and natural makeup — with the exception of a statement red lip.
