There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
Though the world now knows him as an established fashion figure, Harry Styles only began to develop his now-well-defined personal style toward the end of his time in One Direction, before his solo superstardom.
After strategically incorporating more designer apparel into his wardrobe after years of plain black skinny jeans and assorted tees, Styles started to gain the attention of the industry, eventually earning him the British Style Award at the 2013 British Fashion Awards. The following year, he returned to the event, upping his game from a semi-casual Saint Laurent ensemble to a statement-making suit.
To present the same award to 2014’s winner, Emma Watson, Styles wore a red- and black pinstriped suit fresh from Lanvin’s Fall 2014 menswear runway. Though the model had worn it with a pink patterned button-up and black printed sweater underneath, the singer opted for a plain black T-shirt instead. Paired simply with his renowned long, brown curls, this look helped to distinguish the singer not just among his then-bandmates, but also as the fashion star we know and love today.
